Which sneakers were people buying in 2025? StockX answered that question for its own marketplace in its January 2026 Current Culture Index. The report names the brands that sold the most and the models that drew attention. Because StockX is a resale marketplace, its results describe activity on StockX, not all sneaker buyers.
Which sneaker brands sold the most?
According to StockX, Nike, Jordan, adidas, New Balance and ASICS were its five best-selling sneaker brands for the third consecutive year. The report describes the ranking within StockX's sneaker category, not across every retail and resale channel. Nike and Jordan also showed average sneaker prices rising by 5 percent and 6 percent year over year on that platform. Those figures are observations about trades at StockX; they do not supply a price guide for a product directory with different sellers, currencies and product types.
The same report named Mizuno as the fastest-growing sneaker brand in its 2025 figures, with sales up 124 percent from the previous year. Saucony grew by 59 percent. Fast growth is different from high sales volume. A smaller brand can double its sales and still sell fewer pairs than a much larger brand. When reading any “popular sneakers” list, check whether it is talking about total sales, growth or a writer's personal picks.
Which individual shoes stood out?
StockX's separate 2025 Trends report provided a more model-specific view. It said the ASICS Gel-1130 in Black/Pure Silver was its best-selling sneaker at the point described in the report. It also identified the Nike Ja 3 as Nike's best-selling new 2025 model and the Samba Jane as adidas' best-selling new model of that year. These are narrower categories than “best sneaker overall.” The word new, the model, the colour and the reporting period all change the meaning of a ranking.
Two lists can show different winners because they ask different questions. One might count all sneaker sales for a whole year, while another might look only at new releases or one colour. A site can also feature a classic shoe because its editors find it interesting. That is a valid choice, but it is different from saying the shoe topped a sales chart. The label above a list should tell readers which kind of claim it makes.
Do StockX rankings describe the whole market?
StockX connects buyers and sellers who trade on its platform. Its rankings reflect those customers and the products available there. Someone buying a limited release for resale may choose differently from someone looking for everyday shoes. That is why a StockX sales chart is useful for understanding one part of sneaker culture, but cannot tell you what every shopper prefers. It also cannot tell you the current price of a shoe on another website.
The dates matter too. The report was published in January 2026 and looks back at 2025. It is not a live ranking for November 2026. New releases, limited supply and changing tastes can move a model up or down after a report appears. When someone calls a shoe “the most popular in 2026,” it is reasonable to ask what date that claim describes.
What does the report leave open?
StockX reports trades on its own platform, but it does not turn a resale ranking into a measure of all footwear purchases. Its best-selling brands, fastest-growing brands and best-selling new models are three different comparisons. Mizuno's 124 percent year-over-year growth, for example, is a growth rate; it does not mean Mizuno sold more pairs than Nike on StockX. The report also does not establish which pair is most comfortable or best made.
Read each result with its metric and period attached: five leading brands by sales on StockX in 2025, a fastest-growing brand compared with 2024, or a new model ranked within its own brand. Those distinctions make the data useful without turning it into a universal “top ten.” If a named model interests you, you can browse sneakers separately; this report is evidence about a market period, not a live product listing.
